My dog chewed the Ethernet cable that routes from the router (on the main level) to my dad’s computer in the basement:
I didnt want to spend $50 to buy a new cable then spend an hour rerouting it. So I stopped by Microcenter and picked up a crimp tool, some strain reliefs, some couplers, a 1ft extension and some ethernet heads for $30 and saved myself 30min.
I crimped on the new heads and it works great!
I mounted it to the wall so it wont get tripped on:
I learned how to do this off a youtube video 2 hours before I bought the parts.

I needed a 100ft Cat5 cable, this was the easier and cheaper solution.

My neighborhood is zoned weird. Im in a very populated area, but the last telephone pole in my neighborhood is in my backyard. We couldnt get rid of dial up until 2008. We have wireless, but because we are so far out on the grid, the signal is pretty weak and doesnt reach the basement

If you install your own wireless router in your home, you should be able to set something up that reaches your entire house.

We have an airport extreme with a multi-directional antenna and a NAS. We’ve tried everything, it still doesnt reach.

I really didnt want to route it, the first time was a hassle enough. This was far easier.

Had the same problem in my house, ended up picking up a cheap tp-link router and made a range extender through the tp-link software.

You could pick up a cheap airport express and do a wireless bridge. Pretty easy with the Apple software, and that same setup works in my parents house through multiple brick walls from the basement to an interior bedroom. Sucks that it doesn’t work though : /

...what does any of that have to do with wifi? Get a decent router and maybe a couple repeaters and bob’s your uncle.
